Biography

Dr. Ding Ning, Research Fellow, received his PhD Degree from the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). His research focuses on special robots and computer vision. He currently serves as the Executive Associate Director of Shenzhen Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Society (z6首页), Deputy Director of the Institute of the Robotics and Intelligent Manufacturing, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Director of the Guangdong Innovation Center for Embodied Intelligent Robotics, Director of the Guangdong Technology Research Center for Embodied AI Robotics Engineering, and Director of the Joint Laboratory of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province and Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Universities on Urban Maintenance Robots.

Dr. Ding Ning concurrently serves as a member of the Special Equipment Robot Sub-technical Committee of TC591/SC1 National Robot Standard Committee, a member of TC591/WG02 National Humanoid Robot Standards Working Group, a member of NEA/TC35 Energy Industry Electric Robot Standardization Technical Committee, Deputy Director of the Intelligent Vehicles and Robots Committee of the China Instrument and Control Society, Editorial Board Member of the Chinese Journal of Scientific Instrument, Member and Deputy Secretary-General of the Expert Committee on Power Robotics of the China Electricity Council, Deputy Secretary-General and Council Member of the Guangdong Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Alliance, Council Member of the Society, and Member of the Hehu Think Tank in Longgang District, Shenzhen. He has led or participated in major scientific research projects, including: Major Research Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC); NSFC Regional Joint Key Project; Sub-project of the 973 Program; 863 Program Projects; Guangdong Provincial Key R&D Program; Guangdong-Guangxi Joint Key Project funded by the Guangdong Provincial Government; Shenzhen Key Basic Research Project; Shenzhen Sustainable Development Special Project. His research mainly focuses on key technologies and applications for special-purpose robots in the operation, maintenance, and inspection of urban infrastructure such as power systems, bridges, and pipelines. Dr. Ding has published over 90 papers in international conferences and journals, He has been granted more than 100 authorized invention patents and 1 international patents, and has led or participated in the formulation and publication of over 10 national standards in the robotics field. Recognized as a Guangdong Leading Talent and a Shenzhen Overseas High-Level Talent, he has earned many prestigious awards, including: IEEE IROS 2021 Best Application Paper Award and finalist of Best Paper Award on Robot Mechanisms and Design; the 2023 China Mechanical Industry Science and Technology Progress Award; the 2024 Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Progress Award; the 2025 China Instrument and Control Society Science and Technology Progress Award; and the China Overseas Talent Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award.
